<\/h1>\n

In Human Design, one of the most important things you can discover about yourself is your Authority.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are all designed to make decisions from within – by having this inner authority we can connect with.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through personal experience, I have found that, despite my desire to do so, there are many things that get in the way of me being able to consistently \u2018hear\u2019 my authority. Part of my own Human Design experiment has been about learning to let go of many years of conditioning. It has certainly not always been an easy journey and it is something that I continue to learn from.<\/span><\/p>\n

But it is worth it. There is nothing quite as empowering as having confidence in your own decision-making.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, what can really interfere with making this connection?<\/span><\/p>\n

1. The belief that we should \u2018think\u2019 our way through life.<\/b><\/h2>\n

One of the biggest things that get in the way of us connecting with our Authority is our Mind.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fact is that our society absolutely idolises our Mind – but this has taken us away from something that is truly able to show us what is aligned for us – our Authority.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are taught from our earliest years to \u2018think about\u2019 any decision or problem.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are advised to make a pros and cons list. These come from logical thinking. But our minds are not truly logical. The Mind filters, deletes and alters information that comes into us depending on what we choose to focus on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our minds are not truly logical or independent of us. We are basically guiding our minds at the unconscious level. Our mind then seeks things that confirm the input we give it.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you think you are useless or stupid your mind will give you evidence to back this up.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our minds are not unbiased, so they are not going to give us reliable \u2018advice\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

They are great for giving us information, ideas and questions, but they are not reliable advisors.<\/span><\/p>\n

When you first come to Human Design, you have been conditioned to listen to your mind for advice. It takes effort and awareness to release your many years of training.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Allowing other people to become our Authority instead.<\/b><\/h2>\n

From our earliest years we are trained to believe that others are better at making decisions for us than we are.<\/span><\/p>\n

It starts in childhood. Did you ever have a parent or other adult say something like, \u201cI know what\u2019s best for you. You will do what I say.\u201d?<\/span><\/p>\n

This sends us the unconscious message that we are incapable of making correct decisions for ourselves.<\/span><\/p>\n

It trains us to think we always have to ask for advice from others.<\/span><\/p>\n

How many times have you been pretty sure you know what is correct for you, but have felt like you can\u2019t just do that? You had to check in with someone – just to make sure.<\/span><\/p>\n

How many times has someone else said something to you like, \u201cWell, if you really think that\u2019s the best thing\u2026but I wouldn\u2019t do that.\u201d?<\/span><\/p>\n

We seek out friends, family members, partners, professionals and others to discover their take on our decision. We feel like we can\u2019t make a decision based on our internal instincts.<\/span><\/p>\n

When you try to connect with your Authority, it can often be drowned out by the voices in your head – the voices of your \u2018trusted advisors\u2019. Even if they aren\u2019t there, their influence can often dull down the \u2018voice\u2019 of your Authority.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Pressure from society to conform and follow society\u2019s Authority.<\/b><\/h2>\n

Our society puts pressure on us to conform to certain expectations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Governments, institutions and the social or intellectual elite tell us how we should act.<\/span><\/p>\n

They desire to be our authority.<\/span><\/p>\n

They can make us feel as though, if we don\u2019t follow their rules or expectations, then we are an outcast.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is not all bad. Being part of a society is an important part of being a human being, particularly if you have a lot of tribal energy within your design.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many rules and laws enable us to survive.<\/span><\/p>\n

But some of them are more about control.<\/span><\/p>\n

Think of advertising, media and influencers who are telling us what is the correct thing to do, or buy or believe. They are also trying to make us feel that if we don\u2019t conform, we will be unable to have a place in our society.<\/span><\/p>\n

All of these different aspects of society can cause us to act automatically – without thought, without considering what our Authority is telling us is correct for us.<\/span><\/p>\n

Society\u2019s influence can be quite invasive – but often we can be blind to this.<\/span><\/p>\n

When we come to connect with our Authority, we can struggle to follow it if it doesn\u2019t fit with the messages we are being bombarded with.<\/span><\/p>\n

Conclusion<\/b><\/h2>\n

Being able to trust yourself is a gift.<\/span><\/p>\n

Your true Authority is one way that you can give yourself this gift.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is worth the focus to develop this connection!<\/span><\/p>\n
